Sept. 18: 15th Anniversary Event of La Pena del Bronx

Dear Compas (friends),

We are inviting you to our 15th Anniversary Event of La Pena del Bronx in collaboration with La Roca, a local community garden in the South Bronx, on Sept.18.
The event will be from 3 - 7 PM and we hope to have music, food, arts and crafts, as well as poetry, spoken word, hip hop, cultural dances, salsa, plena and more...

We will celebrate La Pena's work in the community as well as denounce the Iraq war and occupation, denounce the deaths and suffering of our brothers and sisters in New Orleans And denounce the biggest looter of all: the Bush administration And fight for rights of poor folks and folks of color.

La Roca community garden is located at:
160th Street and Elton Ave in the Bronx.

(4 or D Train to 161st Street/Yankee Stadium and walk several block east to Elton. 2 or 5 Train to 149th Street and 3rd Ave. and walk north along 3rd Ave to 160th St. and turn left to Elton)

La Pena del Bronx is a multi-racial, multi-ethnic grassroots based community organization from the South Bronx that has worked for the last 15 years for the rights of poor people, communities of color and immigrants.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!!!
La Roca community garden is a new permanent garden that needs volunteers and donations to finish construction.
We will be meeting Saturdays: Sept 10th and 17th to help clean up the space. We plan to meet every Saturday at the same time until it gets cold to finish construction.
PLEASE VOLUNTEER YOUR TIME AND EFFORT FOR A GREAT LOCAL COMMUNITY CAUSE.
