July 28: Book event: The Great American Jobs Scam

The Great American Jobs Scam
Thursday, July 28th 2005 12:00pm
Demos 220 Fifth Ave, 5th Floor (near the corner of 26th St)

Greg LeRoy, founder and Director of Good Jobs First, presents his new book, The Great American Jobs Scam, which exposes the truth about corporate tax breaks and the creation of jobs. LeRoy will demonstrate how communities lose twice when corporations are subsidized jobs and revenue and offers common-sense reforms that will benefit taxpayers and build communities.

Assembly Member Richard N. Gottfried of the 75th Assembly District, will introduce LeRoy. Gottfried is a strong advocate for more equitable and transparent economic development policies for New York City and State, most recently as an active leader in the fight against public subsidies for the West Side Stadium proposal.

Thomas Frank, author of What's the Matter With Kansas? says of LeRoy's book "Here is the secret history of our economic times, a tale of public larceny told plainly and painstakingly and also with a dash of mordant humor."
